What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a quote, we need the proposed event date, the number of guests to be catered for and what time frame the customer would like the guests to be served within (e.g. 150 guests with 2hrs). We also need to know whether power is available at the venue as this helps us put together our equipment list.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If for example, you were looking for a burger vendor, I would ask what weight of burger is going to be provided and also along with what condiments. There is a huge difference in quality between a frozen quarter pounder from a catering supplier served with ketchup and a standard burger bun from a handmade 180g beef patty with lettuce, tomato, pickle and a signature sauce served on a brioche bun. Ask for an exact menu so you know what you are paying for and also don't be afraid to ask for photographs of the food they are promising to serve on the day.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Charltons Food was born out of a love for food, and also a lack of it. We found the quality in our immediate local area to be lacking and quickly established ourselves as the go-to people for events & catering. We have since expanded our reach and have gained a lot of experience along the way serving both private and corporate customers.
