What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a comprehensive quotation it helps if the organiser can provide information on what type of event it is, if it is indoors or outdoors and what facilities the venue has. How many guests there are is an obvious requirement, but you would be surprised at how many people forget to put this on! What kind of menu the client would like is also important, such as cold buffet, hot buffet, hog roast etc. We can then draw up a list of equipment as well as staff needs and provide the customer with an accurate, comprehensive quotation.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Get a shortlist of caterers together and look at their reviews on either Add to Event, Facebook or Google my Business. I particularly like the Google my Business reviews as they are vetted by Google for their authenticity. Ask your friends if they have used a caterer or if they have heard of the company. Word of mouth is important. Check out Food Hygiene Ratings online or check if the business is registered with the local authority. Ask what equipment is provided - some companies hire in equipment which can bump up the costs. Finally talk to the owner - you will know a genuine foodie who is passionate about their business!
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Midlands Hog Roast and Catering was started 12 years ago when we were running a marquee-based wedding venue. It soon became apparent that good food is exceptionally important and that our reputation would be synonymous with the food. As good food is really important to us we decided to take the catering in house so we could control the quality of the catering provided. Since then the business has expanded to incorporate a number of menus and we solely concentrate on outside catering as our happy customers were asking us to cater other events at other venues! My previous experience as a wedding and events planner ensures that all of our catered events run smoothly and exceed the customers expectations.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have had a number of bookings through Add to Event, but I seem to be most popular with the corporate sector who love my barbecues! Over the last year we have provided hog roasts, BBQs, afternoon teas and formal dining at weddings, corporate lunches, birthday parties, Christmas parties and sporting events all thanks to Add to Event.
