What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To get the best from a quote request you must remember to give as much detailed info as possible. We fully understand that this could be the first time you have ever requested a marquee. But for the hirer, it can be even harder to give you the most accurate quote at the first time of asking if we don't have enough info. If you are having a wedding, you need to let us know that you are having a certain amount for the meal and then if there are additional evening guests, you need to let us know how many extras are coming and be clear on the numbers. It's always worthwhile having a really good think about what you want before asking for a quote. It makes the whole process easier if the correct info is asked for. We need to know where the marquee would be getting delivered to and possibly even access times at the venue. What kind of finishes inside the marquee are you imagining? What kind of furniture and possibly what kind of lighting are you thinking about? Do you want a dressed marquee or something completely basic? Any additional info can be a help and in the end, it is all about you getting the most relevant quote first time and saving you time and effort (and possible confusion).
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
For any large event that uses a marquee, I would always recommend using someone that is geographically close to you. The main reason for this is to be able to give good service if any little issues arise. A marquee is a temporary venue that has to adapt to the surroundings it is in. For instance, if sudden inclement weather were to hit your event, how quickly can the company react to any issues. If you book someone that is 2, 3 or even 4 hours away from your event, by the time they get to you, it could have a significant impact on the event. Even if you are paying just a little more for the job, always think about the service the company can give you on the day. We generally only service up to 90 mins max away from any site for this very same reason. Over the years, this approach has served us and our customers well.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Baillies Marquees was a natural progression of a smaller company we had over 20 years ago that hired inflatables to the public all over the central belt. We had added very small marquees into our fleet to support the larger corporate days we already supplied. We were made an offer to sell the company and all of the proceeds were used to start Baillies on the path of supplying larger marquees to all sorts of events. As we have developed, we always moved forward with the very best service we can offer to our clients with a total determination of refusing to ever let anyone down.....ever. We are a family firm in every aspect of the word. Husband, wife, sons, nephews, nieces and friends are at the core of our team and we all pretty much live and breathe for what we do day in day out.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Last year, we had received a small quote request from Add to Event. The customer had asked for a pretty basic structure in Edinburgh but with some of the quotes they had got back, they decided to call us as we had (in their words) taken the time to give them more info than everyone else. The still were not sure of what they wanted but they wanted it to be special for their sister who was coming back from Australia for the first time in over 20 years. We decided to give them a visit at their home as this is where they wanted to hold the party. After speaking to them, we ended up doing something twice the size they had thought they could fit into their garden as we had special steel subframe floors that allowed us to go straight over very rough ground they had previously thought would be unusable wasted space. It ended up a full family party for 100 instead of the initial 40 they had first thought was possible and after the job was cleared the following week, we received a bunch of flowers at the office for the girls that had dealt with the booking together with a handwritten letter of thanks. We do get many of these but from just a quick quote request through Add to Event, this had turned into a special event with truly heartfelt thanks for our effort on the day. You cannot buy that satisfaction as a supplier to the public.
