Read on for more plus some hints on how to choose the right provider for your event.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to best quote an event, we need to know as many details as possible. Sometimes we see somebody requires 2-4 staff for 2-4 hours, which has a number of variables. That one's easy for us, we have a minimum 4-hour call out, but when it is over 12 hours for 10+ staff, the possibilities are endless. We tend to charge an hourly rate, so it's easy to quote once we know how many staff and for how long. We've got staff all over the country, so location isn't an issue - but it's always helpful to know where we're sending them.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Staff come at a cost - think how much you'd like to get paid, and all of the other costs involved with staffing. We pride ourselves in paying the living wage - so much so we're being accredited for it soon - but this does mean our staff come at a price. As with most things in life; the higher the quality, the higher the price. We think our prices are very reasonable based upon the quality of service provided but others - certainly those on a shoestring budget - might disagree. So think of us as a brand in your local supermarket - you can buy supermarket own brand if you want, we don't mind, but we can provide you with what that lacks - be it a sweeter taste or, in our case, outstanding customer service.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Kent Event Services began as a platform for self-employed and freelance event managers, like Josh (Business Manager), to provide event services to public and private clients at competitive and reasonable prices. The business began in 2017 and has grown year on year with more clients and events annually, resulting in over 100 PAYE and freelance staff working for the business by the end of 2018. 2019 saw Kent Event Services shift their primary focus to event operations and staffing, with vast experience in production and ticketing as well. We've already quoted for more events in 2020 than we worked in 2018 and 19 combined, so things are looking good for the young business.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We've got a number of bookings coming up in 2020 as a result of a chat with Add to Event. One event was a private party just before Christmas, where we sent 2 staff who really enjoyed working the evening. Both were kindly tipped and were paid generously for their time. The client hasn't left us any feedback but we've not had any complaints - no news is good news. I would recommend this to fellow freelancers looking to pick up small jobs and would benefit from the rewards of recommending.
