The Houlies
The Houlies deliver a modern, funky, and energetic sound more in keeping with that of a contemporary trad group than a Scottish country dance band. All of the band members come from a background of classical training and have extensive and varied experience of playing at both concerts and functions, so you can be confident that your event is in safe hands.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a comprehensive quote, we need the event date and venue, as well as an estimate of the event timings. We provide a form that walks you through all of the information we need and makes the booking process very simple.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure you find a band which plays the style of music you like! A common misconception is that all ceilidh bands sound the same, but there is a whole spectrum from the more traditional to really modern sounding bands. We're definitely towards the contemporary end of the spectrum.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We started the band almost four years ago; having played individually at ceilidhs for many years prior. We formed the band out of a shared love for modern ceilidh music and playing at weddings and parties. Since then, we've had the pleasure of playing for so many fantastic people all over the country!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
It's so hard to choose! We've played at some pretty special weddings over the years. A highlight has to be learning and performing Zorba the Greek for a first dance at a Scottish/Greek Wedding a few years ago. Nothing will ever beat the look of delight on the guest's faces as they were surprised with this! And it was so lovely to see the cultures symbolically come together.
