What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a quote for a customer, we need ideally the event date, the type of event they require a bar for (wedding, private party, corporate bar, etc), the estimated number of guests, the potential location or venue and if it's indoor or outdoor. We will then offer our most competitive price alongside a few other queries such as if the venue is licensed. We always bring our own water & power so this is not a factor that limits us. We can literally provide a bar anywhere!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First, ask the provider about the service they are offering and make sure they have sufficient experience in bars and events and have been operating for a number of years. We were one of the first horsebox bar companies in the North East (we started in 2016). Since then we have seen copious numbers of one-man-band or couples operating event bars thinking its easy money when it certainly isn't. Because of this, we have also seen a number of clients come to us last minute because their current supplier has gone bust or has even simply been offered a better event on the same date.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
The Tipsy Horse was started in 2016, born out of my passion for all things hospitality. I have over 15 years experience in the events sector having started from a very young age, having worked on events around the region as well as within some of the regions best bars I thought it would be great to combine the two and so the Tipsy Horse was born.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
There's been a lot of bookings through Add to Event! It's a great platform to allow you the customer to be able to reach such a broad spectrum of suppliers easily. One of our favourite Add to Event clients was a wedding in rural Northumberland, it was certainly a challenge but we pulled it off with ease. The wedding was set in a country hall in the middle of Northumberland National Park, we faced the challenge of having to tow our horseboxes within cm of cliff edges and over the oldest of bridges. We also had the challenge of allowing guests to pay for drinks via card when there was no phone signal for our card machine to work! To fix this challenge we invested in a large 4G mast and router that we ran up the top of a hill with over 400m of power and data cable running to it! We ended up with sufficient speed on this to actually allow guests limited access to the internet!
3 Years on and the client is still regularly checking in with us providing updates about their newborn baby. Being involved in peoples special day really is a blessing!
