Kirsty Duncan is a Glasgow-based live singer who performs at a variety of weddings, parties, corporate events and funerals throughout Glasgow and beyond. Instead of merely reciting songs, Kirsty prides herself on her ability to really make the song her own and inject her own passionate style into the delivery of the lyrics.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a comprehensive quote I would need to know what date and time your event is taking place, the name of your venue, a description of the kind of event you are planning and what your vision is for your event! Once I have that information, then I would be able to tell you what I could offer, this could be a variety of ideas around your theme if you haven't got an exact plan!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would advise anyone looking to hire a wedding singer or other event singer to ask what their fee covers, for example - travel, use of equipment, as well as actually performing. Another thing would be to ask if they require anything at your venue - whether that would be the space they would require, a plug etc.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I started my business because I love singing - I particularly like having such varied work from wedding ceremonies to surprise performances and all sorts of events! When I get asked to sing at a special occasion I like meeting the client, discussing their requirements and even singing the songs they want me to sing at their event. I want to know why they like the particular genre or song I've been asked to sing, as I know that will mean that I will really know why I am performing! My business started, and continues, as people enjoy my live performances enough to want to recommend me!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
This is a great platform for receiving enquiries and bookings - the system works well which means I can chat to potential clients and give them information about me from the leads I receive! A booking I got through Add to Event was for an 84th Birthday Party - it was a great event, with me singing songs from The Great American Songbook - think Ella Fitzgerald - for a lovely party! The client was really happy with the entertainment I provided, and although I had been booked as a background singer, everyone stopped and listened as I sang some of the classics such as 'Misty' and 'Someone to watch over me' - A fabulous night!
