The French Revolution
The French Revolution is a French-style caterer specialising in crepes and galettes which serves at events such as weddings and private parties throughout Brighton and beyond. Served from two classical Citroen H vans, the menu is wheat and gluten free as well as being almost entirely organic. The type and complexity of the crepe and galette menu can be entirely customised for each event.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To produce a comprehensive quote we need to know how many people you are expecting, whether you are looking for a van or a set up in a marquee or even in your house (we can do either); and whether your guests will be moving around or sitting at tables. Fast though we are, crepes cannot easily be served for a large number at the same time - they are better suited for parties of up to 200 who are on their feet. With this information we can tailor for you an offer that may include galettes, crepes or canapes; and if you request it, we can also include a meaty special.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask them how many crepes they expect to produce in an hour, and find out how much experience they have in this kind of work. As a host, you may not have a clear picture of how hungry your guests may be all at the same time- but some events start off with a bang, along with a big queue, and you need to know that your supplier can handle this. Can they also provide smaller portions or canapes to spread the load if necessary? Are they able to tailor a menu to your requirements, and can they produce gluten free or vegan?
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
The French Revolution was born through our love of all things French! My wife co-ran a shop in Brighton's North Laine called "A Lot of Gaul". We wanted to use that name too - but as our vans go under the name of "Oui Creperie" (clue: the number plate) we had to let that one go. We love the artistry and the skills which are entirely self taught, and our customers love the spectacle - even the French, who we believe should know. We love the history wrapped up in this tradition of Breton peasant food. We now operate two Citroen H vans, bringing our love of France to the South of England.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We squeezed in a fantastic New Years Eve wedding party into the last of the year- so close that we got to our own party before midnight! A wonderfully joyous occasion, despite the failure of the space heater to deliver heat. Add to Event is a fantastic concept in a class of its own, which has made the complexity of choosing your event catering much easier- and cheaper- by getting suppliers to come to you. Great for suppliers too- we all are approached individually by prospective clients, and anything we are unable to mange goes into the Add to Event pool!
