What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To enable the customer to receive a comprehensive buffet quote we would need to know the number of guests, exact location of the venue, whether or not there will be stairs due to the carrying of equipment etc. We would like to know what facilities are at the location and what options are in place due to weather change. How many are adults and children is important too, as this can vary in the price quoted since a 3 year old would not eat the same amount as an adult.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Do they offer an alternative product? For example rather than using paper plates for a wedding reception do you hire crockery and cutlery? Do you want staff to assist with the day to reduce the stress on you so that you can enjoy your day as well, rather than being an exhausted host? What's your maximum budget? What credentials or insurance does the provider have and can this be provided in evidence? Are delivery costs included or on top of the quoted price?

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

S&J Catering Services are a husband and wife business, started in 2012 and based in Kent. Originally we wanted to open a tea room in the country but decided to jump in the deep end with Paws in the Park at the Kent County Showground and loved it.
We wanted to give customers the option to have good home made food at a price that wouldn't sting the budget. There's nothing worse than paying more for the food than the actual function. We always try to please the customer no matter how big or small the function may be, and we cater for many corporate organisations within Kent for their management or team meetings at reasonable pricing. Our customers always leave us lovely comments for us to put on our website and we have met some really lovely people en route!

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Some of our bookings have been a good experience for us. In tents, in cow fields in the middle of West Kent, or in customers' back gardens and village school halls - we've been everywhere! We have had a reasonable amount of confirmed bookings through Add to Event, but some we unfortunately are unable to assist due to location or being double booked. I check Add to Event every day to see if any new requests have come in and from reading our reviews on this site we are doing ok! I am very happy with Add to Event.
I would recommend other organisations to use this site, everything is easy to set up and change if need be.
