What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

Providing a postcode is extremely helpful, that way we can work out the exact mileage and give a more accurate quote. The type of event (birthday/market day/festival), how many people will be attending and how many are likely to want painting is also very useful information. It makes the day much more manageable and allows us to work out the average timings per person, which also affects the choice of designs. Any specific instructions on arrival (eg. behind the church, through the red door) and the closest place to park helps on the day. I will always do at least 2 (heavily-loaded) trips to the car, so really appreciate having a shorter distance to walk. Free parking should be provided as part of the hire as this will not be included in the cost of the quote. Name and age of the birthday girl/boy would be really great so we can greet them and congratulate them personally on the day.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would ask about the quality of their paint and if it is suitable for sensitive or young skin. I would say most face painters still use Snazaroo, which is not of an adequately professional quality; some products have been found to have lead in when tested. I'd also ask if there is an age restriction when painting people. And knowing how long they will need to set up/pack away will be useful on the day. I'd ask whether they offer a discount after a certain length of time. And I'd definitely check they have a DBS or Liability insurance? These are not essential but may give an insight as to whether they are professional or just doing it as a hobby. If you are worried about hygiene, ask if they have a procedure they stick to, in order to avoid contamination etc. See if you can gauge what kind of atmosphere they will bring to your event. You are likely to want someone with a bit of energy and a positive attitude rather than someone who doesn't interact well with people.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I began face painting for Myton Hospice, where my Dad passed back in 2012. Having this passion stem from such a personal event in my life has given me the motivation to seek the best in my ability and has lead me on from one extraordinary experience to the next. I worked at UK festivals before travelling to New Zealand and becoming a professional body painter, working for a prestigious SpecialFX and Body Painting company. I also did a year as a manager and children's entertainer at The Fairy Shop in Auckland. I have now moved to the creative, vibrant city of Bristol and with all the knowledge and enthusiasm from NZ, started my own company. Competent in children's entertainment, body art, sign writing, wedding and festival seasons, Painted Peach offers bespoke and beautiful designs suitable for all ages...

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I have had lots of work through Add to Event and it has been a great platform for my start-up business. People have always been very complimentary about my work and it's nice to see my enthusiasm is met by more enthusiastic people. I have done several birthday parties and have recently had some requests for weddings which I am looking forward to. I would recommend Add to Event to other start up businesses and small companies as it reaches a much wider range of people than just my local area. If I've ever had a problem or query, the online help team have always done their bit to solve it; it's nice to know there are real people involved!
