What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote, I need location so I can calculate the mileage. I need the number of guests, and if it's a children's party, I like to have an estimate of the number of children and if it is boys or girls. If they have a favourite character, or if there is a party theme is also helpful. The age of the child is key too, so I can create a board of designs for the children to choose from.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Are they insured? They should hold public liability insurance. Do they follow strict hygiene standards, for example one sponge per child, clean brushes, and paints? How many children can they paint in an hour? 10-12 is average, with 3 minutes per child. They should not take ten minutes per child as that's only six an hour. How long have they been painting? It takes at least a year to be fast, and deal with children efficiently and quickly. Are they using professional, high quality paints which are FDA standard approved?

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started the business like many face painters - I painted my own children and found I had a talent for painting. After being encouraged by friends and family, I decided to set up as a sole trader. I attended many events and training courses, to improve and reach the standard I am today. I have been in business now for five years, and I am just as passionate about my job now, as when I started. I never stop learning, or researching new ideas and products to improve the service I provide.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I have had many bookings with Add to Event, and it is difficult to single out one. But I did find the event I attended at a 50th birthday party held at a club for deaf people absolutely amazing, It illustrates the fact that face painting is enjoyed by everyone, not just children. It brings fun to all types of events, and for people from all walks of life. I would definitely recommend Add to Event to others, as I have never been so busy. I have a full weekend ahead, with a diverse mix of fun days and dog shows.
