What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

So that we can provide a detailed quote to a customer, we like to know the nature of the event (such as a birthday, anniversary, wedding etc.), the date and venue of the event and also the time that food will be required, the number of guests and any dietary requirements. We also like to know if waitress service is required and if there are any particular requests regarding the food. This allows us to then pull together a comprehensive quote which includes a detailed menu.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I think it's important you feel comfortable with the supplier as a person, as well as the product they offer. Trust is a key element when working with small businesses - you need to know they will do the job they say they will to a high standard. Make sure you know exactly what you're getting - the items on the menu, whether crockery is included, are drinks part of the package, will they set up and clear away, can they provide staff to serve if needed? Also ask for a food hygiene certificate so you know you're working with a company that take pride in the way they work, as well as the produce they provide.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

My business is built on a passion for food and hosting events. I'm a self-taught baker and cook and have spent years perfecting my recipes and building menus that are full of delicious foods and provide a real talking point for customers. After experiencing business and event catering over the years, I was fed up of beige food that had been bought in or even re-heated from frozen the event. It drove me to want to create wholesome, homemade food that was made from scratch, freshly for an event. I wanted the food to be a talking point, an occasion, rather than forgotten about. That thought process led me to start Laura Fox Catering. It was an obvious choice for me as I also love hosting parties and events and so Laura Fox Catering means I can run a business that lets me do my favourite things on a day to day basis - cooking, baking, working with customers and suppliers and hosting events. This truly is my dream job and I take pride in running a business that teams delicious, homemade food with top-class customer service.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Add to Event has generated lots of enquiries for me, for all types of different events. It's a great way to gain leads and interact with customers. I also think it's a great way to spread the word about your business to people that may not have heard of you otherwise. I'm fairly new to Add to Event so have had a few selections so far. My most exciting booking so far is an afternoon tea party for 100 people in February for a 90th birthday party. I've worked with the ladies daughter to create their perfect menu for the event, choosing their favourite cake flavours and sandwich fillings. Although the event hasn't taken place yet, I'm really excited to host this party for such a lovely family and can't wait to help them celebrate in style!
