About Memories of the Blackforest

Gunther came to the UK in the mid 70s. A German national, he had trained as a chef in Germany, Switzerland and France before coming to the UK.
Working as a chef at various Newcastle based hotels, he soon became dissatisfied with the standard of cooking and moved into hospitality management.
"Newcastle was a culinary desert in those days", he says.

Working for Grand Metropolitan in a number of units in the North East, lecturing cooking at Ashington College, running the multi-award winning Black Gate restaurant in Newcastle for many years, he eventually moved on to Newcastle City Council as the Hospitality Manager looking after which was then a flagship operation.

25 years on, Gunther now operates Memories of the Black Forest, featuring food from Germany and the Distinctly different Ricordi d Italy....all from a refurbished horse-box .
We cover many public events, private & corporate and offer great flexibility. Choose from either Italian pasta dishes from Calabria or our popular German offering.

Wonderful people and wonderful food!

Could not give a better review for these lovely people; Gunther and Loretta made the entire process of organising and booking their services extremely easy. The food was well cooked and there was a variety of different options for people, including vegetarian and gluten free. It was very clear to see that the stall represents German culture, helped by the clothing that was worn by the two. Overall, everyone loved the food on offer! G & L even put out free things for the children such as lollipops and free portions of potato salad, sauerkraut, etc. for the adults.
