Your wedding isn’t a photoshoot. It’s a day to celebrate, laugh, cry, drink champagne, hug your favourite people and have an absolutely brilliant time. My job is to capture all of it.

I’m Charlotte, an award-winning wedding and elopement photographer based in Cornwall, photographing weddings across Devon and the South West. With more than 15 years and 800 weddings behind me, I know when to step in, when to help and when to disappear into the background and simply let the moments happen.

My photography is relaxed, natural and full of life. No hours spent posing for photographs or being dragged away from your guests. I’ll capture the big moments, of course, but I’m just as interested in everything happening around them – the laughter, the slightly chaotic bits, the people you love and all those fleeting moments you didn’t even realise were happening.

And when we do sneak away for some beautiful portraits, it’ll be relaxed, quick and actually enjoyable. Cornwall also gives us some rather spectacular places to play with – beaches, cliffs, woodland, moorland and gorgeous evening light.

Photography wasn’t part of some grand career plan – but once I started, I completely fell in love with it.

Before photography, I had a varied career, including working as an International Events Director and spending time in the Police. Both taught me skills that turned out to be surprisingly useful at weddings – organisation, dealing with people, thinking on my feet and staying calm when things don’t quite go according to plan!

What I love most about photographing weddings is that no two are ever the same. Every one has its own people, personalities, atmosphere, laughter, emotion and wonderfully unpredictable moments.

Over the years, Charlotte Atherton Photography has grown from just me and my cameras into a full-time family team of photographers and videographers, but the reason I do it hasn’t really changed.

I love creating beautiful photographs, but even more than that, I love giving people a record of how their wedding actually felt – the people, the relationships, the ridiculous moments, the happy tears and all those little things that become more precious as the years go by.

And after all these years, I still genuinely look forward to every wedding I photograph.

I’ve been photographing weddings professionally for over 15 years and have now captured more than 800 weddings, from huge celebrations to intimate elopements with just two people and everything in between.

That experience means very little fazes me! I know how wedding days work, how to keep things running smoothly when needed and, most importantly, how to capture everything without taking over your day.

I’m a member of the Guild of Professional Photographers and proud to have received the Hitched Wedding Award in 2024, 2025 and 2026, based on reviews and recommendations from the couples I’ve photographed.

Today, Charlotte Atherton Photography is a full-time photography and videography team, working throughout Cornwall, Devon and the South West.

After 800+ weddings, I still genuinely love what I do – and no two wedding days have ever been the same.

My couples tend to have one thing in common – they want to enjoy their wedding rather than spend half of it having photographs taken!

I photograph everything from big countryside celebrations and beautiful coastal weddings to tiny ceremonies and elopements with just the couple, a handful of guests and occasionally a four-legged ring bearer.

My clients are usually relaxed, fun and more interested in having an amazing day with the people they love than following wedding traditions simply because they’re supposed to.

They love beautiful photography, but they also want their photographs to feel real – genuine laughter, emotion, slightly chaotic moments and all the little things that make their wedding completely their own.

Traditional, alternative, elegant, wildly romantic or wonderfully laid-back – if you want to enjoy your day and have it captured naturally as it unfolds, we’ll probably get along brilliantly.

I’m a member of the Guild of Professional Photographers and have been a full-time professional wedding photographer for over 15 years.
