Why We Do What We Do

Elevate Circus Workshops was founded out of a simple but firm belief: performers and tutors deserve to be properly valued for their skill and experience.

Having managed a well-known national circus agency, I saw first-hand how contractors — often highly trained, experienced professionals — were being underpaid for the value they brought to every event. It didn't sit right. So I set out to build something different.

Today, Elevate represents a network of over 150 DBS-checked performers, tutors, and artists across mainland UK, and we do things differently from the start: our tutors keep the vast majority of the booking fee, receiving at or above Equity recommended rates, with a simple flat agency fee rather than the industry-standard cut. It's a performer-first model, because a business built on undervaluing the people who make it work was never going to be one I wanted to run.

What inspires us day to day is simple — watching a nervous kid land their first juggling trick, seeing a room of corporate colleagues laughing together over a diabolo, knowing a couple's wedding day had a moment nobody else's did. None of that happens without skilled, motivated performers who are properly looked after. That's what we're here to protect.

About Me

30 years in the events industry, thousands of bookings organised, and I still can't spin a plate for longer than four seconds without it ending in tears (mine, not the plate's).

What I can do is admin in my sleep — invoices, logistics, last-minute venue changes, the works. Give me a spreadsheet at 11pm on a Sunday and I'll have it sorted before you've finished your tea. Give me a diabolo and I'll have it embedded in a hedge within thirty seconds.

That's rather the point, though. I don't need to juggle fire to know who can — three decades of running events has taught me exactly what makes a booking brilliant, what makes a client's day unforgettable, and, crucially, which performers are the real deal versus which ones are "pretty good at parties." I leave the plate spinning, stilt walking, and general death-defying to the genuinely talented people I represent, while I handle the bit that actually terrifies most performers: the paperwork.

So no, you won't catch me in the ring. But you will get thirty years of experience making sure everything around it runs like clockwork — even if I'm the one who trips over the extension cable.

And here's the bit I won't compromise on: our contractors matter just as much as our clients. Without brilliant performers, there's no show — and without happy clients, there's no business. Neither one works without the other, and that's exactly how I run things.
