Our Story
James Russell, a self-taught filmmaker with a lifelong passion for storytelling. Rather than learning in a classroom, James learned by doing — buying a camera and spending two years travelling the country making his first documentary and refining his craft in the real world.
That debut film went on to be translated into seven languages, win international awards, and help influence changes in law in two countries — a defining moment that shaped his belief in the power of film to inform, connect and inspire.
Since then, James has produced content for broadcasters including the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, and directed films for global brands such as FIFA, McLaren, Epson, Tesco and Costa Coffee.
Whatever the brief, content making remains a genuine pleasure

Experience
I’ve been shooting video and photography for over 20 years, and I’m entirely self-taught — learning by doing, experimenting and constantly refining my craft in real-world environments. That hands-on approach has shaped how I work today: calm under pressure, adaptable, and always focused on capturing the moments that really matter.
My career began with a documentary project that went on to win at the Crystal Palace Film Festival, and that early love of storytelling still runs through everything I do. From there, I founded Flat Frog Films, which has grown into a trusted creative company employing a talented team and working with clients on a weekly basis.
Today, I work with brands such as FIFA, McLaren, Epson and Costa Coffee, creating video and photography that feels natural, engaging and authentic. No matter the scale of the project, I bring the same energy and care to every shoot — because I genuinely love what I do, and it shows in the work we deliver.
