Kensal Sugar Kitchen was founded by Charlotte Simpson-Orlebar, a lifelong sweet shop dreamer who spent 25 years working in TV production before finally following her passion. In 2020, she picked up a recipe book, opened it at random, and landed on homemade marshmallows. What began as a simple experiment quickly turned into hundreds of batches made and remade in her own kitchen—each one carefully refined until the texture was just right: soft, light, and truly melt-in-the-mouth. During lockdown, a moment of quiet courage led her to walk down the road and ask a local pub if they might stock her marshmallows in their pantry market. They said yes. It was a small but meaningful turning point—suddenly, these once kitchen-made treats were ready to be shared, whether for parties, picnics, or something a little special

We make our marshmallows to make people smile. Our reviews speak for themselves but kind emails of thanks and genuine surprised 'I had no idea marshmallows could taste so amazingly' bring us great joy. But of course we cannot ignore the great pride it gave us when we won a Great Taste Award in in 2023 and a Great British Food Gold Award in 2025. An appearance on ITV's 'James Martin's Saturday Kitchen' programme in December 2025 was just the icing on the cake!
