Newer Ground Jazz

Newer Ground Jazz is a highly creative group of talented musicians pushing
the boundaries of convention and creating music that challenges the listener
to come on an unforgettable sonic journey which soars and then brings them
safely home.
It is an avant-garde group with a power-house rhythm section over which
lyrical soprano, alto and tenor saxophones float. It combines often free
improvisation with a beautiful array of stylistic genres. At times tethered to
recognisable traditions such as hard-bop and south American grooves the
musicians obviously enjoy cutting the safety ropes and flowing freely. The
shifting structure of the performance blurs the distinction between the known
and the unknown, between existing melodies and music which is being
composed on the spot.
The band’s energy and infectious beats will get listeners tapping their feet and
then when they least expect it, they will be delighted by a change in mood.
Spontaneous and fresh, you will be treated to funky hints of reggae, overtones
