Our Story
Smoke & Barrel was created from a passion for hospitality, great drinks and unforgettable events. Built on years of experience within the hospitality and events industry, the business was founded with a simple goal — to bring high-quality cocktail experiences and professional bar service directly to people’s events.
What started as a passion for creating memorable guest experiences quickly developed into a mobile bar business trusted by private clients, venues, event organisers and corporate brands across the UK. From intimate celebrations and weddings to large-scale public events, Smoke & Barrel has grown through a reputation for reliability, atmosphere and attention to detail.
Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work at some incredible events, including Formula 1 at Silverstone and Winter Wonderland, as well as delivering cocktail masterclasses in partnership with Bullards Gin. These experiences have helped shape the premium yet approachable service we’re known for today.

From skilled cocktail bartenders and mixologists to event coordinators and setup staff, every member of the team plays a part in ensuring events run smoothly from start to finish. Experience & Credentials
Smoke & Barrel is led by Glen Newton, a highly experienced hospitality and events professional with more than 20 years of hands-on industry experience across bars, restaurants, hotels, weddings, festivals, luxury venues and large-scale public events.
Glen’s career began within high-volume hospitality venues before progressing into premium cocktail and fine dining environments, including working with Plymouth Gin Distillery and V&S Spirits, where he developed an extensive knowledge of mixology, premium spirits and high-end customer service. He later went on to create and run Bar, a cocktail training and consultancy business focused on menu development, mixology training and improving bar profitability for hospitality venues.
Throughout his career, Glen has managed and supported a wide range of hospitality businesses including cocktail bars, restaurants, hotels and event venues, holding senior operational and management roles across Norfolk, Cambridge and beyond. His experience includes overseeing P&L, staffing, training, menu development, event operations, cocktail creation, customer experience and venue launches.
As part of Smoke & Barrel, Glen has successfully delivered mobile cocktail bar experiences for weddings, private celebrations, hen parties, corporate events, festivals and branded activations throughout the UK. Notable experience includes operating bars at Formula 1 at Silverstone and Winter Wonderland, where he was responsible for developing cocktail menus, VIP bar setups and day-to-day bar operations. He has also worked closely with respected regional brands as a cocktail lead and brand ambassador for St Giles Gin, Bullards Gin, Home Farm Gin, Brancaster Gin and The English Whisky Company.
Alongside his operational background, Glen also brings extensive expertise in marketing, sales and brand development from senior leadership roles within media and advertising companies, where he specialised in social media campaigns, business development, public speaking and promotional strategy. This unique combination of hospitality operations and commercial experience enables Smoke & Barrel to deliver not only exceptional service, but polished, professional and highly engaging event experiences.
With formal wine and spirits training through WSET and extensive practical experience across every level of hospitality, Glen has built Smoke & Barrel around professionalism, creativity and genuine passion for guest experience. Whether delivering an intimate private cocktail evening or a high-volume public event, the focus always remains the same — exceptional drinks, memorable experiences and service that exceeds expectations.
