What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For Yellow Events to provide you with the most accurate quote we need as much information as possible. A brief outline of the event is the most important along with dates and anticipated number of attendees. For example, if you are looking for a PA, whether it is indoors or outdoors has a big effect on the cost as does what sort of music will be playing through it and whether you need an engineer or not.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Have a look at a supplier's previous work, you will get a good feel about the quality of the supplier from this. Local doesn't equate to cheaper necessarily. Although you may save on transport costs a local company probably still offers services all over the UK if not Europe too and the quality of their equipment and service will be reflected in their pricing. My main advice though would be to ensure that when you do hire equipment or services that all the relevant standards are being met. For example, not many people know that when you hire a generator for, let's say, a wedding the electrical system should be tested and signed off to BS7909, and a copy of the certificate left with the customer. It can be daunting to think that you might have to know what standards should be adhered to, but your supplier should make you aware of what procedures need to be in place.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Yellow Events was originally set up as a production management company offering the pooled resources of a few good freelancers in lighting and power. However we soon grew into a full production services company providing lighting, sound, staging, rigging, video and power services. We have worked on events all over the world in live events, exhibitions, sports and TV. Our most appreciated USP is the quality of our delivery - everything we do is neat, tidy, clean and clinical.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We get a lot of our local work through Add to Event, I like offering our services to local companies and individuals as it ties us into the local community, something that we feel very passionate about. One such event that demonstrates this perfectly is the Spiritual Realms festival at the Clophill Centre for Holistic Therapies. We quoted for power, staging and sound for the festival but once we had conducted a site visit it was discovered that the power on site was sufficient for the events requirements so we dropped the generator out of the quote which saved the client money. As the festival grows our service will grow with it, trust is a very important factor. I have recommended Add to Event not only to other companies but also to some of my customers if they are looking for something that we don't supply.
