What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
I would be delighted to give you an accurate quote for your special cake. Useful information to know is the date of the event, the number of people you are catering for and if possible, an idea of the style of cake you would like. You don't have to know exactly and if you need some inspiration, I am here to help with that.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Check out previous work by looking at the website and Facebook page and reading reviews. There are lots of hobby bakers out there which may charge very low prices - these prices are generally very low for good reason. A reputable cake maker will be registered with their local council and will have liability insurance. Have a chat with the cake maker either by telephone, messaging or WhatsApp to get a feel and to see if they get a good idea of what it is you're after or can give you some good ideas that you may not have considered.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I had been working in law for many years when, in 2014, it was my mother in law's 60th birthday. I wanted to make her a special cake. I went armed to a one to one lesson with my cake which I had made and all my icing and I was shown how to assemble a teapot cake! I was so incredibly pleased with the result and it just gave me a bug. I started getting orders at work from colleagues and then the firm I worked for asked me to make 100 cupcakes for a corporate event and I realised I was actually pretty good at this. I then started taking one course after another and then I completed the PME diploma in sugarcraft. I got myself registered, created a Facebook page and went pro in 2016. I love the customers I deal with and I get so much pleasure from the looks on their faces when they see their special cake.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have had a number of bookings from this platform and one, in particular, is a wedding at a lovely little venue in Canterbury. I really love making wedding cakes. I remember how big a deal my own wedding cake was to me and I really enjoy creating that for other wedding couples. This particular couple were so delighted with their wedding cake. That is a nice feeling.
