What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The first thing I look for are the details on the type of event, personally I do not DJ at kids parties or 18th/21st birthday parties, I am just not the right DJ for them. The rest of the details enable me to give an accurate quote, thus avoiding an awkward conversation later when you have missed something, therefore the more information on what you as a customer would like from their DJ really helps. What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The best advice is to read the DJ's reviews, these are a true reflection on how others have rated him. If the flashy kit is important to you, check for recent photos. Look for keywords in the reviews, he was quick to reply to any question, kept us informed during the whole booking process, was keen to meet face to face, this is so important you need to know you can work with him. I personally would never hire a supplier without meeting them.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started recording songs off the top 40 when I was 10, I made very simple mix cassettes for family and friends, or anyone else who would listen to them. My first true gig happened by accident, I attended a local youth club and one night the booked DJ failed to turn up so I grabbed a handful of records (yes vinyl) and to my surprise, everyone loved what I played. That was 40 years ago and as you can see from my reviews they still love what I play now (no longer vinyl)

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

One of the first bookings I won via Add to Event was for a young lady who was arranging a birthday party for her 80-year-old Nan. She was delighted that I responded quickly explaining why I thought I would be the right choice for her as a DJ. I spoke with Ceri straight after my email and listened to her numerous questions, they were both from her and her Nan. I offered to meet them prior to the booking to make sure I fully understood what they wanted and to ensure they believed I was the right DJ for them. Success, after talking with them they paid me the deposit there and then. We kept in touch during the weeks before the party. The afternoon went very well, she had invited 40 friends and family who all danced to a huge range of their favourite music. I finished the event off with the birthday girl in the middle of the dancefloor surrounded by her friends and family, they all sang New York, New York.
