What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

Face Painting has evolved from a bit of fun for children to something more refined, whilst it is still brilliant for kids, face painting can also add a touch of art and magic to adult events including weddings, parties and corporate events. In order for us to offer you the best possible service, tell us about any themes or ideas you'd like us to incorporate, give us an idea of the number of people and the age range so that we are quoting for a bespoke offering. For example, if we know there are lots of teens, we will bring extra festival glitter! Face Painting doesn't really work in the pouring rain, so let us know if it's outside, and what provision for cover there is or whether we need to factor in a gazebo.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Firstly, read any reviews on Add to Event, but do delve a little deeper. Check out websites, Instagram pages or any other social media so that you have a true understanding of the level of work you are paying for, Face Painting is something that anyone can potentially claim to offer, but the standard varies hugely. Don't be afraid to ask to see samples of work or for further references if you want to. A professional face painter will only work with high-quality products, so ask them what paints they use, and they will also be happy to let you see a copy of their insurance paperwork.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Glitterlicious Face Painting evolved after several stints as 'resident face painting' at school fairs. Realising I enjoyed it very much, I decided to embark on a training course. This was followed by a couple more courses and a few tentative bookings with friends. As my skill and confidence grew, I began to take on more bookings and increase my knowledge and skills (through more courses and collaborations with other painters) until finally, I was ready (and excited!) to launch Glitterlicious. I love what I do and work alone or with other painters for bigger events and bookings, and genuinely enjoy every single event.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I recently got booked to paint at a Howdens Kitchen event which - at first glance - didn't feel like a very face-painty occasion. I could not have been more wrong! They were going with an Army theme and I spent quite a lot of prep-time, before the event, coming up with ways to deviate from traditional camouflage and think of ways to keep an eye on the theme, whilst offering a rainbow of colour and design. The team were brilliant and all got painted prior to the event which is always a really lovely way to start a job, and the customers loved being painted and especially enjoyed the 'CamoButterflies', and 'Jungle floral designs'. It was an all-day booking, but the day went really quickly and I left with the promise of more work in the future. The key thing with this booking is that I was fairly new to Add to Event so they would never have found me without this platform and will be key in helping me build up my profile here.
