What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
When an organiser requests a quote, by far the most important thing is to describe in as much detail, what it is they are looking for. As a caterer, the most difficult requests to answer are those that say "just looking for ideas" or "just looking for a rough price." An organiser should put as much detail as possible - any good caterer will be able to accommodate those requests, or suggest an alternative that may be more suitable. This applies to the menu choice, the type of service, the theme, etc. The more information you give potential caterers, the more likely you are to find the one who fits what you want.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Shopping around is a good idea, even if you have a fixed idea of what you want. It's not all about price either, although budget can be a determining factor in choosing a caterer. Talk to as many caterers as you can before you make a decision. Our main business is Barbecues and Hog Roasts, although we provide other services too. A good caterer will be used to and expect you to compare different providers and won't be offended. Take note of reviews, feedback on their website or social media. Finally, and possibly the most important. Make sure they are fully insured. A bona fide business will be professional, and practise to safe, legal and professional standards.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We love Hog Roasts and Barbecues. Always have. The atmosphere of cooking and eating in the open air conjures up a relaxed atmosphere and can really add to the atmosphere of any event, family, community or corporate. When we started in 2014, it was just about providing Hog Roasts to others because it was a style of dining that we loved and knew it would appeal to others. Since then, outdoor cooking has grown in many ways and we are proud to be able to offer a range of options - Spit roasting, Barbecue, Hot Buffets, Mexican, South American (Asado) and a mixture of menus built around the client. Invariably the guests enjoy the experience which serves to remind us that starting this business was the right thing to do. Anyone who works in the Hospitality Industry knows that the ultimate objective is to give the customer the most pleasurable experience and to see them leave with a smile on their face.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
It really is not possible to pick out one event. Weddings are fantastic because everyone has come together to celebrate the love of two people and that flows through every part of the event. Our style of catering is relaxed and the lack of formality there is a catalyst to allow the guests to relax and enjoy themselves. The number of people looking for suppliers (I can only speak for catering) through Add to Event seems to be growing and growing. The pandemic has created a backlog and the next few months or even years will see more people planning ahead. For this reason, I would recommend Add to Event to anyone in the Hospitality Industry.
