Giglight
Giglight, based in Kidderminster, provides a wide variety of lighting and effects for small to medium events. Along with a detailed history of the business is also comprehensive advice on what you should know about when booking your supplier.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order for us to provide accurate quotations, we need to have the following key pieces of information. Date (including load in and tear down timings), venue (especially important if we are to "fly" equipment), power (is it generator or mains, if mains what size supply is available) and finally when it comes to live music - genre. We specialize in providing concert feel stages to smaller events - to replicate that true feel the more we know the better so we can include any genre-specific elements such as mirror balls, lasers or confetti cannons!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look at the detail, anyone can pick up some "disco" style lights which are fine for that event. Stage lighting requires both effects and good front lighting. If the quote does not include engineering it is likely you are getting "disco lights". Also, ask about Loher (compliance in lifting equipment) and liability insurance. Finally, a photo speaks a million words! Lighting is something that can easily be captured on film - ask for examples of recent work and verify that it is indeed the proposed supplier. Many companies will use "Google" sourced images. Giglight have a Youtube feed which gives videos of recent work and references the event in question so you can be sure it is genuine.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Born out of a mobile disco which operated around Worcestershire successfully for many years. Focus moved away from music and we concentrated on providing lighting services to various touring acts and dry hire to venues in the Buckinghamshire area. After the relocation of the business back to Worcestershire in 2015, we widened our scope to encompass both the touring acts, but also the emerging festival markets. Significant investment has seen the scale of our events increase year on year with some of the latest technologies, normally associated with large touring acts available to the smaller scale event. During this period we also joined forces with a superb Live Audio Supplier, helping us to offer packages (vice versa).
In 2019 we have plans to expand into AV with investment planned in Outdoor LED Screen Panel Arrays - available standalone for live sports events, or as part of a larger stage package - along with working with our partners to fill other gaps in the offering. Watch this space!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We took out subscriptions to both Last Minute Musicians and Add to Event over a year ago when we first decided to harness "the internet". We soon noticed the volume and quality of leads from Add to Event by far surpassed Last Minute Musicians. We have since cancelled our presence on LMM and focus on Facebook and Add to Event for our internet presence.
We have had some success and a small number of bookings via Add to Event, the amount of quote requests seems to increase year on year so we hope to build on the successes in 2018 in 2019.
With the intended expansion of the business to encompass video walls we will be looking to Add to Event to get the word out there.
