This Fine Day
This Fine Day are mobile caterers and street food caterers serving Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and London. Here they shine some light on their own backgrounds and what you need to consider when booking a caterer for your event.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a comprehensive quote to a customer we require the event date, a brief explanation of the type of event they are hosting and the type of cuisine they are interested in, the estimated number of guests, the venue, whether it's an indoor or outdoor event and if there are onsite catering facilities, a water supply and electricity.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Firstly read the reviews the provider has had from previous customers. Secondly don't be afraid to ask questions, an experienced caterer should be able to answer them quickly and in detail. Finally be realistic, don't ask for fine dining if you only have a small budget and don't ask for multiple caterers to 'provide choice' if you only have a small number of guests attending. If the provider doesn't think they can make a profit they won't want to quote for the job.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Owners Paul and Rob met way back in the hazy days of the early 90’s working for Prue Leith at Hampton Court Palace. Since when, either individually or together, they have run their own pubs and managed numerous restaurants. Catering is in our blood and being a mobile caterer provides flexibility and excitement in equal measure. No day is ever the same and we can be catering for a wedding one week and at a festival the next!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
That's a tough choice but I think I'd pick a charity event we did last summer in aid of African Vision - a charity raising money to help kids with curable eyesight conditions. Obviously it's a great cause but we also had a lot of fun despite some serious technical issues! We were cooking outsight and there was no electrical point to plug our lights into, even though the venue had it's own power. So we were cooking by candle and phone light. We coped though and the customers all helped by shining their phones at us and everyone really enjoyed the food, which is the most important point.
