What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
We really like to see some comments from the enquirer regarding their particular preferences, likes or dislikes even, as that helps us to be sure we can cover all the requirements for everyone's satisfaction.
The venue is important as if we have not worked there before, we like to meet and review at the location and consider any specific aspects we need to cover, like tables, smaller speakers, early arrival etc.
Ages are useful but don't always relate to the decades of music, so the background to the event is really important.
The date is crucial, as without it we cannot know if we are booked or not!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Every provider has a different approach, so have a good look at their website and comments to see if they match what you are looking for.
Also, respond to quotes with any further questions to make sure the provider understands everything that will make your event special.
Having a chat on the phone is good, but meeting at the venue is a really good way to ensure everyone and everything is assured.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We started our original disco business at school in Nottinghamshire in 1973, using taxis and friends for transport until I passed my driving test!
It developed over the years until we were out several nights a week all year round. After a break due to other work commitments in the 90s and 00s, we were asked to help with an 18th, from which we got two more bookings, and got involved with announcing at swimming events and a carnival, and then comparing civic events for Erewash Borough Council, so now we are as busy as ever!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Add to Events has worked well for us as the level of details provided is good, such that we can make an initial assessment of our suitability for the hirer and event. We then send a response and hope to make our proposals the most interesting for the hirer.
One of the bookings we received recently was for a 60th birthday, with guests of all ages and specific requests for music from big band to Pink Floyd, and the rest 70s.
We had a good email and phone conversation with the hirer, we knew the venue already and we were booked.
The event and timing all worked well, our ability to engage with the audience and engage folk seemed to work well and the client submitted a very nice review.
