Paul is a singer/guitarist performing carefully selected songs from a wide repertoire from the '50s through to current chart sounds. He is an experienced musician who plays all around the country.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote to a customer I need a brief description of the event they are planning, the time, date, length of the performance, and the address of the venue. It is also helpful to know the expected age range of the audience to plan an appropriate programme. With this information I can see the preparation and work required which will enable me to prepare a firm quote.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

It is wise to check the musician’s repertoire is appropriate for the type of event you are hosting. It can also be helpful to ask how much experience they have of performing at events of this type. I also recommend finding out what other work they have done to date as a successful track record from an experienced artist is likely to guarantee a successful performance for your event.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I am passionate about entertaining with music. I have worked in music performance all my life and can’t imagine living without it. The joy of sharing music with others is an amazing experience and I work every day to prepare and live this dream.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I’ve had many wonderful bookings through Add To Event. They all involved good communication between the customer and myself. I think this is key to success. As an artist, you will be performing in a new venue to an unknown set of people, consequently the more information that can be shared in advance the better. For example, I recall a birthday party in Suffolk where the host was able to describe the demographics and likely musical tastes of his guests to help prepare my setlist. The event was a resounding success. He also requested a couple of his own favourite songs which I learnt specially for the occasion. They have since become regular audience favourites at my gigs!
