What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a comprehensive quote to customers, we require the event date, an outline of the type of event ie wedding, birthday, prom, the venue, indoors or outdoors and finally which service(s) they would like to hire us for. We can then put together a quotation for their occasion.
Some hires may require us to conduct a site visit, to provide a more accurate quote. This will be explained by us at the earliest possible point.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First ask the provider about the services they are offering. I believe all providers should understand the services they're providing to customers.
I would also advise customers to search deeper into smaller businesses and trust them against bigger organisations'. I believe these can really provide a more personal tailored service than larger organisations. For us, it's not all about doing the job. It's about creating a trusting relationship with the customer so it leads to more and more opportunities down the road.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We started J&J Event Solutions in August 2020. Our careers were in the direct fallout from COVID-19. We are both theatre professionals. James was working as a lighting technician, in various theatres and tv studios across the country. Jaspal was previously a scenic carpenter, working on various projects across London.
When the pandemic hit, we lost our jobs overnight just like that. Jaspal re-trained as an HGV driver and is now hauling trucks overseas for artists touring Europe.
James, took a temporary job in retail but is now back working in Lighting as a freelancer, mainly in TV.
We created J&J Event Solutions to keep in touch with what we are passionate about. So we decided to form the business to provide services to the Wedding and Events industry.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
One of our upcoming weddings, is one we are really excited about. We have been hired to create a bespoke lighting design for an upcoming wedding in Berkshire. We have been planning it for a couple of months, working with our client to ensure their wedding looks spectacular.
We can't wait for the day to arrive and finally share what we have been working on.
