What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For an accurate quote, it is always great to know the venue location, time, date, and guest numbers. The type of event/service is important to know for preparation and set-up and the type of equipment I will need to bring, if a corporate event will it be in a single room or a multiroom event? If a wedding, will you require coverage for the full wedding from getting ready? If for adverting/product photography what is the setting/location backdrop you are looking for? Is there a particular style of photography you have in mind? From this, I am able to put a fairly accurate estimate together to give an idea of costs before taking the process further. Always provide as much information you currently have.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always do your research, check websites for portfolios and examples which can be seen on social media, look at reviews/feedback, and specialist forums for advice. Good communication, have a conversation with them, and it's so much more personal and informative than simply contacting via social media/email for example (so a combination of both is good). Write down what you are looking for (even if you think it sounds a little odd or strange) and ask as many questions as you can, you can never have too much information. Never make a decision purely based on price, in most cases if you see somebody that is a perfect fit for your requirements but think they might be out of your price range, reach out to them and simply ask most will be happy to negotiate and settle on a deal.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have had a passion for photography from childhood from when my parents purchased a manual SLR camera for me, capturing those split moments in time forever in so many different aspects from black and white to photos with a creative edge every photo I take has a thought process and reason and is never just a snapshot. I started with taking photos at family events and always got comments on my work, then progressed onto local companies and people looking for coverage for events, fashion, portraits, PR/marketing, etc., and started from this to what I do now offer a full multi-discipline quality photography service.
Photography has never been a job but a passion and way of life for me and the looks on people's faces when they see the end results are always amazing no matter the type of service. I always take an interest in what my clients want and work with them closely and in some cases with award-winning results. Every photoshoot is exciting and different.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I saw a request on "Add to Event" from an established artist who wanted a photographer to take photos of her art exhibition inside an actual castle. I submitted a detailed reply on what I could offer and how I could help her to express her work through a photographic eye. We then had a telephone conversation for about an hour and got on really well discussing myself and my photographic background and her artwork, we are both creatives and discussed everything from lighting, type of artwork etc., even talked about tea and biscuits! I also explained that's it is important that I capture what she was looking for and not the other way around, this is very important for both of us as creatives.
The job was then booked, when I arrived at the exhibition the artist's talent was plain to see and I wanted this to be captured in photos, I spent many hours photographing the artwork alongside the artist using many different techniques in order to extract as much detail as possible and take full advantage of the large room inside the castle which was totally unique was also the very first time the castle owners have allowed an artist to showcase there work. We will be staying in touch and working together again.
