What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The nature of the event and how the hosts want the event to play out (with special regard to any specific dietary needs). The number of likely guests or the number of likely servings to be made. Other specific arrangements like duration, access to power, water, location (either indoor or outdoor) are all important. And primarily, food type for the event.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you know what service you are hiring and whether you really have the budget for it. Get a good sense of the number of likely visitors/guests. Take an estimate on the number of people likely to eat, balance this with the number of people who may share. It is often a fair bit lower than you might otherwise expect.

Suppliers will want the number to be higher - but it always better to be realistic and conservative rather than persuade a supplier by blindsiding them. I always prefer to make sure that surprises are eliminated by making sure sufficient discussion takes place before the event,

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I really wanted to get into catering - just to see that I could launch and start something for myself - mobile catering proved to be a very realistic and cost-effective way to get into private business without staking everything on a venture that might possibly fail. Its always better to start with something small and manageable at first and develop your way to success carefully without burning your fingers.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

There have been so many bookings of different types through this resource that it's difficult to know where to start. The vast majority of the events we have been to are all remarkably different and quite varied. Most have been very good and well organised, at others you simply need to wing it a little bit. But we have certainly got out and about for most of the weekend for last year. What an adventure it's been!
