What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
Do you have a date and a time booked? Which venue are you using? Have you thought about how you would like your ceremony to look/feel? Is there anything you would like to include in your ceremony - ie handfasting? Would you like a rehearsal in the week leading up to your ceremony? Any other information about the ceremony?
You might not have all these things yet - and that's ok! Part of my job is to work with you and help and advise. The more information I have, the more accurate the quote will be!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First and foremost, find someone who you connect with! The ceremony is arguably the most important part of the day (along with the food!). It's the time when you are professing your love for your partner with all those important people in your life!
So, have a look at their website, see if you can arrange a face-to-face/zoom meeting or give your celebrant a ring - we love to chat about what we do!
Over the months (sometimes years!) leading up to the wedding, we'll get to know each other well so you need to find someone who you find easy to work with and who can capture you, the story of your love and the feel of your ceremony.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Becoming a celebrant was something that I never thought I would do in a million years - I must admit I didn't even know what a 'Civil Celebrant' was!!
As a celebrant, you have to have a varied skill set! Over the years, I have worked in various fields, which (although it might not seem like it!) are all interconnected and have led to this point!
First and foremost - I like people! I work as a therapist, freelance, alongside my celebrancy business and so it gives me the tools to chat and to find out the story of a couple (don't worry - I won't analyse you though!!)
I spent years working as a teacher - planning, preparing and delivering engaging, exciting lessons for students - keeping things on track but fun (I was a drama teacher!)
Over the years I have also spent time working in theatre as an actor, director, producer and technician, staging large and small scale events - making sure the show goes on!!
These different skillsets mean that I'm able to put together your event, your ceremony your way with care, with flair and in the way you want it!
