Our Story

Ashley James Medical was established in 2021 as the sole trading name of Ashley James Redfern, a former 999 frontline emergency ambulance clinician providing independent professional medical services to private clients. Since its incorporation, Ashley James Medical has developed into the structured medical provider you see today, delivering high-quality, professionally governed medical services across a diverse range of settings. Built on strong clinical governance, discretion, and operational reliability, we support individuals, organisations, and events where safe, responsive, and well-managed medical care is essential. We work with a diverse client base that includes television and film productions, corporate organisations, public venues, private individuals, and high-profile clients. Regardless of scale or setting, every client receives the same commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and clinical excellence. Where discretion is required, we operate with absolute sensitivity and respect for privacy.

Our team is made up of experienced, registered clinicians with broad backgrounds in emergency care, pre-hospital medicine, patient transport, and specialist medical support. Each clinician is carefully selected not only for their clinical competence, but also for their professionalism, communication skills, and ability to deliver calm, effective care in both routine and high-pressure environments.

Our Team

Ashley-James Redfern (Dip PHEC) Founder, CEO & Head of Service​​

Ashley is an autonomous pre-hospital emergency and urgent care clinician with a record of outstanding clinical practice. He is qualified to a foundation degree level with a Diploma in Pre-hospital Emergency and Urgent Care, placing him at Descriptor Level 'F' within the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC) Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) Skills Framework.

With over a decade of experience in healthcare, including many years on the frontline of the 999 ambulance services, he possesses a deep understanding of complex and challenging medical environments. He is an Associate Member of the College of Paramedics and is registered with the Health Practice Associates Council (HPAC).

Ashley is highly experienced in event medical cover, including for high-risk sporting events, complex repatriations, secure mental health, and VIP/HNW medical support. His expertise also spans TV and film production, medical, night-time economy (NTE) support, and high-dependency (HDU) transport.

With additional qualifications in Rope Rescue, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, and Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medications, Ashley integrates clinical skills with technical rescue knowledge. He utilised this unique background to build the robust governance and operational framework of this prestigious medical provider from the ground up.

As a passionate and intuitive leader, Ashley maintains an organisational culture rooted in transparency, pride, and high standards. He leads a specially selected management team dedicated to ensuring the safety of patients, the satisfaction of staff, and the continued success of the organisation.

Andy Powell (DipHE MCPara) Director & Chief Operating Officer​​

Andy is a highly experienced emergency care professional with a proven track record of leading successful private ambulance organisations. A qualified Hazardous Environment Medicine Paramedic, he is fully registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

His extensive career spans military service, frontline 999 ambulance operations, and the fire service. Andy excels in hostile and remote environments, having conducted complex technical rescue missions and delivered specialist training to personnel across the organisations he has served.

​Known for his approachable and calm demeanour, Andy employs a passionate yet calculated management style. This allows for collected operational decision-making that prioritises the best interests of the organisation, its patients, and its staff.

​Working alongside the CEO and senior leadership, Andy ensures that the organisation’s operational strategies are implemented with precision. His focus remains on maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-led service that responds to challenges in a timely and professional manner.

Mary-Claire Barnaville (BSc Hons MCPara) Clinical & Safeguarding Lead​​

Mary is an experienced Paramedic with a diverse background spanning frontline 999 ambulance services, complex care, domiciliary care, and UK government departments.

As a qualified Level 5 Safeguarding Lead, Mary manages the daily clinical operations of the organisation while serving as our dedicated Safeguarding Lead. In her role as Clinical Lead Paramedic, she is responsible for the rigorous assessment of staff competencies, conducting Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and overseeing Continued Professional Development (CPD).

She maintains our high standards through diligent patient care audits, clinical investigations, and the uncompromising enforcement of our clinical governance framework.

Mary is a key member of our Medicines Management Group (MMG), collaborating with our Governance Compliance Pharmacist and Chief Medical Officer. Together, they oversee all clinical governance and compliance by reviewing Patient Group Directives (PGDs), investigating clinical incidents, and ensuring absolute medication and training compliance across the board.

A friendly and approachable leader, Mary maintains an open-door policy for all staff and clients. She provides a supportive environment for discussing clinical queries or safeguarding concerns, ensuring that transparency and safety remain at the heart of our practice.

Alex Morera (GPhC Pharmacist) Governance Compliance Pharmacist

Alex is a dedicated pharmacist with over a decade of experience in community pharmacy. She began her career in 2012 and worked across multiple sectors, predominantly in community pharmacy but also in warehouse vaccine distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, developing extensive expertise in patient care and medicines management.

Her professional ethos is firmly rooted in delivering individual, patient-centred care. In her role with us as Governance Compliance Pharmacist, Alex continues to uphold this by working collaboratively alongside our Medicines Management Group (MMG) to review and further develop our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Patient Group Directives (PGDs), ensuring safe, well-led, effective, and high-quality service delivery.

Sean Swan (IHCD EMT) Operations Manager​​

Sean is an experienced Emergency Medical Technician with a distinguished career spanning decades within the 999 ambulance services. His background includes serving as a Station Officer, where he was responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe, and effective delivery of daily frontline operations.

In his role as Operations Manager, Sean serves as the vital link between senior leadership and our daily service delivery. He ensures that the strategic directives of the leadership team and the Medicines Management Group (MMG) are implemented with meticulous attention to detail.

Sean oversees the full spectrum of our operational logistics, including service planning, complex rostering, and client relations. His expertise extends to the management of our vehicle fleet, inventory control, and procurement, ensuring that our clinical teams are always equipped to perform at the highest standard.

John Howard​ Office Administrator​​

John is a highly proficient Office Administrator with extensive experience across senior administrative, secretarial, and customer service sectors. His career is defined by a commitment to organisational excellence and a person-centred approach to client relations.

In his role with us, John serves as the primary point of coordination for our administrative functions, supporting our senior leadership, clinical teams and our clients. He manages the essential workflows that keep our office running at peak efficiency, from high-level secretarial support to streamlined communications.

With his background in professional customer service, John ensures that every interaction with our organisation is handled with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and care. His attention to detail and dedication to service quality provide a seamless experience for our staff, suppliers, and clients.
