Coal and Curry began with nothing more than a shared passion between husband and wife for cooking great food and bringing people together. What started as hosting family gatherings, BBQs, and celebrations for friends quickly became something people kept asking us to do again and again. We both loved the atmosphere that good food creates — the excitement of live cooking, the smell of charcoal grilling, and seeing people genuinely enjoy what we had made. Over time, our passion project turned into a side hustle, with more bookings, bigger events, and growing support from customers who loved our flavours and service. Today, Coal and Curry has grown into our business, built from hard work, family values, authentic cooking, and a genuine love for creating memorable food experiences for every event we cater.

What began as a passion project in our family kitchen officially became our full-time business last year, and since then Coal and Curry has continued to grow bigger than we ever imagined. From intimate private gatherings to large-scale celebrations and community events, we’ve had the privilege of serving incredible customers across a wide range of occasions, bringing our live BBQ experience and bold flavours to every event. The journey has been exciting, fast-paced, and incredibly rewarding, and we’re proud to see our brand continuing to grow through word of mouth and returning clients. This summer marks another huge milestone for us as Coal and Curry will be appearing at the Colchester Food and Drink Festival, where we’ll be serving our signature charcoal BBQ dishes and authentic curries to food lovers from across the region.
