Supplier Spotlight

Free Range Cooks

Free Range Cooks provide delicious, honest food for special occasions ranging from vibrant street food to smart sit down three-course dinners, making them a perfect choice for weddings, dinner parties and festivals across the South East of England. They also offer tips for when booking caterers for your own event.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote for a customer ideally we would need a date for the event, a rough number of guests. Information on the venue whether it’s indoors or outdoors if it’s indoors does it have a kitchen and prep space and if outdoors do we have access to light, power and water. This allows us to determine whether or not we have the equipment to do the job and also plan what equipment we will need to bring with us.
It’s also good to get a rough idea of what the customer has in mind for the potential food offering to enable us to provide an accurate sample menu specific to your needs.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would advise any potential customer to ask some questions about the providers work background and see how much experience and knowledge they have on the particular food choices you have asked for.
Ask the provider if they can provide any reviews from previous work they have completed and finally ask the provider how they intend to organise and run the day. That way you can get a rough image of how things are going to look and work on the day of the event.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Free Range Cooks was started 3 years ago always with the idea of creating exciting, vibrant food from across the world whether it be for large celebrations or intimate private dining. We pride ourselves on using local food and producers as much as possible and love creating menus around the great produce we have available to us.
We love the vibrancy and variety of food, thrive on a new challenge and meeting great people along the way.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We’ve had loads of bookings through Add to Event and would highly recommend it to anyone. I’ve even been using it recently to source suppliers for my own wedding next year.
One event that comes to mind that we catered for back in the summer was a fantastic festival style wedding in Sussex. We fed 150 people paellas and risottos from our giant pans accompanied by a great looking salad and bread table followed by our fantastic jam jar dessert selection. Everyone complimented us on the food and most people came up for seconds and thirds. We even came back the next morning to do breakfast for all the guests who had camped out to try and heal their sore heads.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of event catering is available?
(This very much depends on where you are based, the type of cuisine you are looking for and your budget. Generally, certain kinds of catering tend to suit certain budgets; for example, street food catering services are likely to cost less than high end gourmet food catering. Do you need caterers for afternoon tea or canapés? There are so many types of catering services available, that it helps to think about what will best suit your event prior to making enquiries.

How much does catering cost?
(This will very much depend on the type of caterer you are looking for. Perhaps you’d like to know a supplier’s finger buffet price per head or perhaps you’re interested in catering packages for a prom. You may need to know wedding catering costs per head or perhaps you will choose a provider purely based on their catering prices. The length of time they are required to be at your event and how far they will need to travel will also be factors. If you're interested in booking a caterer simply submit a quote request to get detailed pricing from catering providers.

How can I find cheap catering services?
(Remember that finding the cheapest caterer doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve got the best deal. It’s about value for money. Some caterers may adapt their menu in line with your budget, so if you like the look of a caterer yet your budget doesn’t cover the most affordable options, ask what they can do. Or perhaps you can opt for a buffet instead of a sit down meal?

Can I supply my own drinks and have a catering company serve them?
(Catering companies’ answers to this question will vary. Most caterers will be happy to do this for you during a meal, however be aware that you will likely be charged corkage. This is something you should discuss with each caterer.

Can caterers supply all dining and cooking equipment?
(Catering supplies will depend on each individual company. Many companies, if they do not hire the equipment themselves will be able to arrange it for you, at a cost. However do make sure you state your needs early on so you are able to source the equipment if they cannot.
