DJ Mista D

My background is in music. I play across the board: R&B, Reggae, Soulful House, Hip Hop, Afro Beats, Pop, Soca, and slow jams. I play in clubs and pubs, and I have my own equipment. I do it because I love to entertain and play music – it's in my blood. It's not about the money; it's about watching people enjoy themselves and taking them on a musical journey.

I started when I was young; my dad used to sit me on his lap and play vinyl. When I got into my teens, I started collecting vinyl. Then came CDs, and now I use a laptop or USB stick. I've been playing music for nearly 40 years and do it for the love of it. My music style is smooth but deadly, and I can play across the board.

I've been a club DJ for over 30 years and played at Notting Hill Carnival for 28 years. I'm a resident at Streatham Soul Club and also play abroad for Soul Heaven, Fantasy Soul & Reggae, Soul Network and Club Camembert. My milestone is playing abroad every year and updating my equipment. It's not cheap, but I love it. I do it for the love of music and watching everyone enjoy themselves—you cannot beat that.

My clients are event organisers, promoters, club owners and private clients who book me.
