Joseph & Oak is a relaxed documentary wedding photography business based in Essex, covering weddings across Essex, London and the wider UK. My approach is natural, calm and personal, focusing on real moments, gentle guidance where it helps, and photographs that reflect how the day actually felt.

I started Joseph & Oak after picking up a camera again and realising how much I’d missed creating images that actually meant something to people. My background is in software, design and user experience, so I’ve spent years training my eye for colour, spacing, detail and how people interact with what’s in front of them. Photography has brought that into a much more human space.

Weddings are what really pulled me in. They’re emotional, unpredictable, full of energy, and no two days feel the same. I love the challenge of noticing what’s happening before it fully unfolds, whether that’s a quiet look during the ceremony, a parent’s reaction, or the complete chaos of a packed dance floor.

I’m based in Essex, where I’ve lived my whole life, and I photograph weddings across Essex, London and the wider UK. My approach is calm, observant and personal. I’m not there to take over the day, but to move with it, match the energy around me and create photographs that feel warm, honest and true to how it all felt.

My background combines photography, visual design and over 10 years of working with digital products, branding and user experience. That has shaped the way I see light, composition, colour and small details, all of which now feed into how I photograph weddings.

I’ve photographed a range of wedding days, from intimate ceremonies and church weddings to full-day celebrations at countryside venues. I focus on documentary-style coverage, natural portraits, emotional moments, guest interactions and the atmosphere of the day as it unfolds.

I usually work with couples who want their wedding photographed naturally, without the day feeling like a photoshoot. Most are planning relaxed, personal weddings across Essex, London and the South East, from countryside venues and churches to town halls, barns and intimate ceremonies.

They tend to care more about real moments, nice atmosphere and emotion rather than stiff posing. I’m a good fit for couples who want gentle guidance when it helps, but mostly want to enjoy the day with their people while everything is captured honestly in the background.

I work with a clear booking process, written agreements and professional gallery delivery, so couples know exactly what to expect before, during and after the wedding. Every wedding is handled personally, with planning beforehand, careful backup processes and edited galleries delivered in a consistent, natural style.

My experience also includes a background in design, visual storytelling and client delivery, which supports the level of care, organisation and attention to detail I bring to each wedding.
