About The Smoked Thistle

The Smoked Thistle provides high-quality BBQ catering using traditional low-and-slow smoking techniques to create rich, flavour-packed food.

We cater for private parties, weddings, corporate events, and festivals, serving everything from tender smoked meats to fresh, well-balanced sides. We focus on great ingredients, relaxed service, and memorable food that brings people together—delivered with a professional setup and a personal touch.

Our Story

The Smoked Thistle was founded by two friends who trained as chefs and developed a deep passion for BBQ and the traditional low-and-slow cooking techniques of the Deep South USA. What began as a shared interest quickly grew into a commitment to mastering the craft, spending over seven years refining the art of smoked meats and creating bold, flavour-led BBQ food.

Alongside our love of fire cooking, we’re passionate advocates of Scottish and locally sourced produce, working closely with small, independent suppliers who share our values around quality, sustainability, and great food. Everything we serve is rooted in craftsmanship, care, and a genuine respect for both the ingredients and the process.

Experience

Our background spans over a decade in professional kitchens, with more than seven years dedicated to perfecting the craft of smoked and BBQ food. Long before The Smoked Thistle, we spent years developing and refining our recipes, techniques, and approach to low-and-slow cooking to ensure consistently bold, high-quality food. We previously owned and operated two highly rated restaurants in St Andrews, one of which reached number one on TripAdvisor—experience that now underpins everything we do. Today, we focus solely on event, festival, and pop-up catering, bringing our skills to a wide range of settings and scales, from intimate private events to large, high-volume public occasions, always with the same commitment to flavour, professionalism, and execution.

Alongside private and public events, we have extensive experience delivering high-volume catering for major occasions, including acting as the official caterer for Robbie Williams and J.Lindeberg during the St Andrews Open. From informal street-food style service to premium event catering, we’re known for authentic, standout flavours cooked over fire and the flexibility to adapt to events of all sizes and styles.
