Q: Tell us about yourself & The Hungry Plaice

I am a strong willed, hardworking and determined woman who has always had a passion for learning and developing myself. With a Marketing degree and a work background in Finance and Operations at a number of diverse companies I always knew I would have the skills required to start up my own business.

A few years ago I had the opportunity with my husband to go into self-employment, we started in catering and eventually found a beautiful old 1983 Transit Mark 2 Fish & Chip Van (who we call Betty) and The Hungry Plaice was born.

At The Hungry Plaice we now run two Fish & Chip Vans and have recently added to our fleet with our Vintage Ice Cream Van.

The Hungry Plaice has fast become a success and we have recently been voted as one of the Top 5 Mobile Operators at The National Fish & Chip Awards for 2023 and we were also a Finalist in the East Midlands area for The Caterer of The Year at The Wedding Industry Awards in 2022.

Q: How has the market changed for your business over the last few years?

The market has moved rapidly in the last few years with demand increasing quickly. Mobile catering is becoming more popular and accessible for people at their life events and provides affordable fun options that break from the traditional buffet and sit-down meals. Businesses are also finding new ways of rewarding staff on site or at business events and mobile catering provides a flexible option for this.

In particular the rise of the street food industry has been huge with the emergence of a wider range of festivals, food markets and outdoor events and it continues to do so.

Q: How has Add to Event helped you achieve your business goals?

I found the Add to Event website in the early days of setting up our business and it helped me to understand the market, what people are looking for and who our competitors were.

Add to Event has given us the opportunity to access clients who may not otherwise have found us, we have gained a great deal of work through the website over the years and it has helped us to find niche markets, cement our position in the mobile catering industry and increase our sales.

Q: Tell us about the best event you ever worked on!

We’ve attended a wide range of events each memorable for their own reasons, however the stand out events we have catered at are where we have served crews working at Film Studios and where we have been on film sets.

Q: Tell us about yourself & High Voltage Events

I originally trained in musical theatre at Bodywork Company Studios and Arts Educational Schools London. Upon graduating, I worked as a freelance performer in the events and entertainment industry along with being a member of a London dance company. Unfortunately, various health issues meant time out of dancing and I realised I needed to find a way to remain in the industry I love, even when I'm is not well enough to perform. In 2016, High Voltage Events was born and has gone from strength to strength.

Q: How has the market changed for your business over the last few years?

Every time the economy struggles the entertainment industry slows down and the work decreases. However, High Voltage Events stands strong and all our wonderful and fabulous clients, who understand and appreciate the value of our services, continue to book and recommend us, allowing us to continue through the tougher times.

Q: Tell us about the best event you ever worked on!

Last year we were fortunate enough to perform at a private wedding in Thiviers in France. As our first trip abroad to perform it was an amazing experience to share our talents and skills in another country.

Q: How has Add to Event helped you achieve your business goals?

Add to event has allowed High Voltage Events the opportunities to connect with a network of potential clients that we wouldn't otherwise have access to. We have gained 100s of new clients that we have maintained relationships with and continue to work with.

Q: Tell us about yourself & Madame Crêpe

Adèle Barnacoat, founder of Madame Crêpe, has brought the traditional skill of crêpe making straight from her native France to provide pure indulgence to your taste buds. Whilst sweet crêpes are just pure pleasure, our savoury galettes are a good healthy alternative to most street foods.

Q: How has the market changed for your business over the last few years?

The market keeps changing and we have to reinvent ourselves constantly, which can be challenging at times but also keeps us on our toes and makes things interesting.

Q: Tell us about the best event you ever worked on!

As much as we love a good wedding do, nothing beats the festival vibes!

Q: How has Add to Event helped you achieve your business goals?

Add to Event has helped us grow our portfolio for private hires and diversify from festivals.
