Ragmarsh Farm Burger Bar offers a genuine farm to fork experience, providing top quality freshly cooked food and cater to events and private parties. Their quality food is served from either a smart and shiny catering trailer or a converted 1970s Commer fire truck.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For us to provide an estimate we ideally need the proposed date, an explanation of the type of event and what sort of food you are looking for, a location, an idea of numbers. An idea of budget and whether you intend to pre-pay or have guests self-pay is also useful. Quality food is top of their list for when checking a prospective caterer.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would ask about the quality and provenance of food on offer. We rear our own meat and make our own burgers and sausages in our butcher's shop. We know exactly what is in our meat products. We use good quality cuts of meat to produce a premium quarter pounder or jumbo pork sausages.
Our prices are very competitive but the product is often of higher quality.
We have never come across a fellow caterer who cooks their chips from fresh potatoes, most chips are bought in frozen. Likewise, there is no pre-cooking involved in our meat products, everything is freshly cooked.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

We originate from generations of farmers on what is still a family-owned mixed arable and livestock farm. We have had a farm shop in the local town for 15 years, 10 years ago we opened a butcher counter within that shop. We started to do local catering work about 5 years ago, literally with a gazebo and barbeque, always cooking our own products, catering at parties etc. The business grew from there and we invested in a brand new bespoke catering trailer. This is fully kitted out with fridges, freezers, griddle, large capacity fryers and hot and cold running water. This provides a nicer environment for our staff and we feel enables us to produce consistent quality of food with a good hygiene standard.
This year we purchased and converted a 1970's Commer fire truck. This is kitted out to a similar standard as the trailer and is proving a popular choice for smaller events, although it has the same capacity as the large trailer for bigger events too.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We are new to Add to Event, we have been recommended by fellow traders, but looking forward to our first booking through this site soon. Up to this point, most of our work has been through word of mouth and recommendations. We have also been active on the larger show circuit. This year we have been to large events such as The Hadleigh Show, Essex county young farmers, South Suffolk Show, BBC Countryfile live North and South and the Great Dorset Steam Fair.
Similarly we have also catered at weddings, 30th and 40th parties, engagements and fundraisers.
