Marvellous Burger Co. Ltd provide freshly made gourmet burgers from their vintage 1964 Citroen van throughout Kent and the surrounding areas. What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

No one likes an "estimate" which ends up doubling or more so please give us as much information as possible! The date and time are most important (including the year!). Please then give us an idea of the type of event, approximate numbers expected and any special dietary requirements. Next, we need to know what facilities will available - electricity, water etc. Finally, give us an idea of your budget and whether you intend to pay up-front, have your guests pay or, indeed, charge your suppliers to attend.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be clear about what you want and understand the limitations of mobile caterers. We cook fantastic (Marvellous!) burgers to order. Therefore, if you are expecting 100+ people to be fed at the same time I'm afraid we would not be the best people for you. We can be flexible and offer alternatives but our classic van is designed primarily to grill. We have tea/coffee making facilities but these really are very basic and could disappoint. Our food is made from the finest ingredients and cooked on (expensive) low-environmental impact equipment. This is reflected in our prices!

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

The Marvellous Burger Co. Ltd was born from a life-long love of good, honest food. I had no experience of commercial catering; my entire professional life up until then had been in finance, latterly specialising in fundraising for start-up businesses. It was time for a change so I went to my clients and persuaded them to invest. We are very proud of what we have achieved in 9 months - it has been tough and scary at times - but when we get a good review it makes it all worth it!

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Our first booking was for a corporate family day at very short notice. It was local (therefore easy to get to in our 1964 Citroen) and the people organising the event were really happy - we have had several bookings off the back of it. Add to Event is great value, allows you to immediately sift through the requests and I would recommend it to anyone (other than mobile gourmet burger businesses in my area of the country!).
