What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For Cake enquires it really helps if clients know how many guests they are planning to cater for, for us to give an accurate quote the venue is a great help as we can work out if there are any delivery costs
For Sweet Cart hire, it would be helpful if you know if the venue already has their in house cart, as occasionally they will only be allowed to use preferred suppliers. Access will also need to be known as the function room could be upstairs and have no lift, so, therefore, would not be possible and therefore we can come up with other ideas such as a sweet buffet table
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I like the customers to come to me for consultations or to put in more friendly terms for a coffee and a chat about all things wedding, they can then see your surroundings and see where their cake is going to be made so there are no hidden surprises,
Explain the process of the cake in detail so that they understand sizes, portions etc. It is a great help to have a dummy cake so they can see roughly what size their cake would be.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have been brought up in the catering business and my late parents and grandparents had their own hotels, restaurants and tea rooms in Essex and South Devon, After leaving school I went to catering school and studied General catering 705 and 706 1 and 2.
I went into management retail for many years and my passion of cakes was only a hobby until I decided to take it on full time and follow my dream after a friend entered me into a Swindon Bake Off competition and I went on to win the best cake in the show, This was the push I needed
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have only just found out about Add to Event and within a week I have had so many enquires and already have had a wedding consultation and just about to book a firework event!
