What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order to provide a comprehensive quote I will need the date of the event and its exact location, the amount of hours I will be needed for and what my start time would be. How many people are at the event itself and what age range they are, also if there is a specific theme for the event or just general face painting are also helpful bits of information. From this I can prepare suitable designs and organise the correct materials and equipment.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would advise they look for someone who has a portfolio of good quality images showcasing their work in order to impress potential clients and show that they are a skilled face painter. I would suggest they also look for someone with a charge that is reasonable and fair.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I began face painting as an assistant to members of my family at festivals from a relatively young age and was always a creative person, studying mostly art subjects in school, college and then at degree level. I was studying textiles and fashion during my art foundation so the two worlds naturally collided and as my interest grew I bought my own kit and started working freelance as a face painter on my own. My intention was to work at events and parties as a positive source of income and to build a name as someone skilled in face painting and develop my skills. Then gain experience in other areas in my free time such as theatre make-up and fashion styling, so that I could eventually become a freelance creative and have a presence in the film, fashion and theater industries.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have successfully booked many events through Add to Event from the first week I joined. My first event was a large children's birthday party in a local hall with bouncy castles, fancy dress etc... There were 20-30 kids present and I was scheduled for a two hour slot but ending up being extended by an extra hour as the kids were having so much fun with the painting. This was a good insight to the kind of work I would be getting through Add to Event but I have also worked at weddings, New Years Eve parties and preparing people for Halloween which I have loved. I always recommend Add to Event to other painters when I meet them as it is an invaluable tool for being a freelance person in this industry.
