What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The most important things we need to know are the date, time, duration, location, estimated number of guests and their budget. It's also useful to know if the event is inside or outside and if they have contingency plans in case of bad weather. We offer several services - face painting, glitter tattoos and festival style glitter - knowing which combination the client requires enables us to tailor our quote.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask the provider how much experience they have and if the pictures on their site are all theirs. I would encourage clients to ask which products are being used, whether they are FDA approved and if any of the glitter being used is Grade 1 (suitable for the face and around eyes). How many people do they expect to paint per hour? A professional will paint up to 20 whilst a beginner may struggle to do 8. If they have specific images you want painted please mention this on booking and provide sample images. 'Quick cheek designs' often take longer than full faces due to small amounts of detail.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I've always been interested in face painting and used to practice on myself and children but only trained professionally 2 1/2 years ago. I went on a course and was completely hooked! I rushed home and ordered lots of lovely professional paints and haven't looked back. I love seeing children's and adults faces light up when they see the completed image and people are always amazed at how quickly I can achieve a detailed look.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I've had lots of lovely bookings through Add to Event - birthday parties, fetes and corporate functions. I love the birthday parties for children where the adults all join in as they always pretend to not want a face paint but as soon as one has it they all decide it's a great idea. You can't beat a good old British village fete and I have attended several in rain and shine. I've been to army bases, sofa shops and universities through my advert on Add to Event and think it's a great way to promote my business.
