The Wolf Hut
Supplier Spotlight

The Wolf Hut

Based in Derbyshire, The Wolf Hut food van can cook up anything healthy from burgers to chilli! Here, they share an enjoyable memory of their favourite catering booking and tips on what to look for when booking a food van.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For a comprehensive quote we require; date, times, number of guests and a good description of the event. For a 'pay upfront' it's still really useful to know the budget so that we can build a suitable menu that matches price expectations. The description is really important to us because it helps us to make a decision on whether The Wolf Hut is appropriate for the event.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

It's important for the event organiser to think about their customer's needs and not make a decision based on personal preference. For example, the organiser might love burger and chips; but if those attending the event want a healthier option, i.e. athletes at a race, a burger van may not be the best choice. I would also look for photographs that reflect what you're looking for, so pictures of events similar to yours, the type of food you require, as this gives you reassurance that the provider has some experience in the type of event you're hosting. I would also check out the provider's website and social media; the online presence of the company will tell you a lot about them! Finally, when it comes to food, always check out the hygiene rating!

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Having worked in HR and Business Development for 17 years, I got to a point where I was no longer happy in a corporate environment. Life is too short to be miserable, so I started to think about doing something different that I really loved, and for me, it always came back to food! One day I had an idea of getting a food van... just to try it out. Before I knew it me and my partner Dave had bought a van, designed our brand, set up a business and I quit my corporate job! That all happened at the start of 2017 and we haven't looked back since. It's still early days for The Wolf Hut, but if it all ended tomorrow, I'd have no regrets about starting the business. We have had an amazing year so far; we get to meet and chat with great people, we serve up food that our customers love, we make people happy and our office is where ever we pitch up. What's not to love!

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I love Add to Event! The concept is brilliant and the platform is efficient and really easy to use. In a short space of time we have had a good return on our quotes. Every event is different and special in its own way, so I'll just comment on the last event we got which was an Aston Martin Owners Club open day. We provided a breakfast service for 60 people, so it was an easy, stress free gig from our perspective. It was a really important day for the company hosting the event because they were showcasing their business and we were part of the experience that they were creating. For us, the customer experience is crucial! It's not just about the client you're working for, it's about your interaction with their customers. The event was a real success for the company and we played a part in that, which is great. Oh, and of course, being surrounded by Aston Martins made The Wolf Hut feel very James Bond!
