What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a quote we need to know a few basic details about the event as our pricing can vary depending on the event. We need to start with the venue (including the name of the function room), the date, the approximate start and finish times for our performance and the type of event (e.g. wedding, corporate event, birthday, etc). There are a few other factors that can affect our price - e.g. if we have to set up earlier in the day or if you have specific requirements for music, lighting or other equipment (such as microphones/headsets, projection, etc) or if you'd like additional services like uplighting or karaoke. If you're not sure what you need (or even if you can't find a venue) we can help you with this.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Remember that the DJ, Disco or Photobooth that you pick can make or break an event and do a lot more than just play music or take photos. The right provider will create the wow factor from the second your guests walk through the door, engage with your guests and make your event a success. The wrong one can drive your guests out the door before the night has even begun!
Make sure you cover off the basics and check how long they've been in business, if they can provide public liability insurance and electrical test certificates (lots of venues won't allow operators who don't have these), if they have experience performing at events similar to yours and if they can cater for your music tastes. Then it's worth doing a bit of research to find out a bit more about them by checking out any photos or videos they've published and found their reviews on Add to Event, on their website or on their Facebook page to see what their previous customers think of their service.
Finally, when you start talking to them, get a feel for how easy they are to work with, if they have a genuine interest in listening to what you want and making your event a success and if you have confidence in them to deliver. Providers who are helpful and responsive from your first contact with them are going make your life easier, providers who give partial answers, are frequently unavailable or are slow to respond to messages are going to add to the stress of planning your event.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Bristol Disco Hire grew out of a combination of a life long love of music and a desire to do provide a better service than I experienced myself at the hands of other DJs and entertainers in my area! Demand for my services has been growing consistently year on year since I started and I've been constantly investing in my skills, equipment and services to improve my performance and increase the quality and range of options I can provide.
I really love being part of the celebrations of big life events that my customers allow me to be part of and contributing to their success. For me, it's all about helping to get the right result for my customers and I guess this passion shows in the feedback I get event after event.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Add to Event has provided a great platform for people to locate all sorts of services for their events and there have been many fun events that have come to me through Add to Event that have been a great success. The most memorable has to be a Wedding in 2018 that looked like it could have been a challenge as there were several factors that usually make it hard to get people to engage with the entertainment (a mid-afternoon start and early finish, a less traditional venue with very little space for dancing and lower numbers). However, it turned out to be incredibly fun with a great crowd of people who danced in the limited space from very early on in the evening. Customers who have come to me through Add to Event have tended to be just as passionate about their events as I am and it's very refreshing compared to working with other lead generation sites and agencies.
