What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The type of celebration they want. I can offer bespoke ceremonies for all occasions including Weddings, Vow Renewals and Elopements. The location and time and approximate duration and any special requests they might have. I can offer a traditional wedding service or something totally unique and can include any rituals that might enhance the experience.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Consider the length of their experience and look at those all-important reviews. Check them out on social media including Google Business. Ask if they are professionally trained and do they have membership of an accredited organisation, how are they held accountable. Humanist Celebrants undergo a rigorous training program and are required to submit details of their continuous professional development. Their ceremonies are regularly peer reviewed and every three years they undergo a formal assessment. Always speak to them directly before committing to anything, the majority of celebrants will offer a free consultation without any obligation on your part.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have been to too many dull, formulaic impersonal ceremonies in both churches and registry offices - yes there are exceptions, but most do not reflect the personalities of the couple and are fairly standard in content. I wanted to offer something different, something joyous and personalised that would be remembered forever. I meet with the couple and involve them throughout the process to ensure that I create the day of their dreams. I only book one ceremony a day, so there is no rush, if someone is running late or you want a longer ceremony- that's fine.
