The Sizzling Herd, by Syd

The Sizzling Herd is a mobile catering trailer owned and run by Syd, a farmer's daughter born and raised on a dairy and beef farm in West Sussex.

We specialise in quality British farm-to-fork street food, serving everything from freshly cooked breakfast rolls, gourmet burgers and hotdogs, to toasties, paninis, homemade chilli, pulled pork and pasta. - all made with locally sourced, farm assured ingredients.

Based permanently in the South Downs National Park near Halnaker, we also cater for a wide variety of events including equestrian competitions, agricultural shows, tractor runs, shoots, fetes, parties and corporate events. We hold a 5-star food hygiene rating and are fully insured and registered. Our menus are completely adaptable - we love working with customers to create the perfect menu for their event, whatever the occasion!

My Story

My name is Syd and I am the heart and soul behind The Sizzling Herd by Syd! My story began not in a kitchen, but on a farm. I was born and bred in rural West Sussex, on a working farm that has been in my family for generations. Growing up surrounded by livestock, countryside and a deep respect for where food comes from gave me a passion for quality, locally sourced, honest food that has never left me! For many years I worked as a senior nurse — a career I was incredibly proud of and which taught me the value of care, attention to detail and putting people first. When I was made redundant in August 2025 due to cutbacks, I found myself at a crossroads. Having a mobile catering trailer, serving beautiful food made from locally sourced British produce, had always been on my bucket list — so I decided the time had finally come! The Sizzling Herd was born! From day one I knew I wanted to serve my own community — the farming and equestrian world I grew up in and love so deeply. There is something truly special about feeding people who work hard outdoors, who appreciate good honest food and who make every single day an absolute joy! What inspires me every single day is my customers — from the tractor drivers and lorry drivers who toot their horns as they pass, to the riders and officials at equestrian events, to the wonderful regulars who have become part of The Sizzling Herd family! In less than a year The Sizzling Herd has achieved a 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating, built a loyal and growing customer base, catered for dozens of events from pony clubs to charity tractor runs, parties to corporate events — and we are just getting started! I am a farmer's daughter through and through — and every single dish I serve reflects that pride! The Sizzling Herd — proper food, proper friendly! ❤️

My typical clients are equestrian venues, rural event organisers, farming communities and outdoor event hosts — and I absolutely love every single one of them! As a farmer's daughter born and bred in rural West Sussex, I truly understand this world and the people in it. I know what hardworking outdoor people want — proper, hearty, no nonsense food made from the best quality British ingredients, served with a smile. From British Show jumping and dressage competitions to tractor runs, country fairs, pony/ riding clubs and agricultural events — I genuinely thrive in these environments!
