Our Story
The Velvet Flame was born from a passion for bringing people together through great food and unforgettable experiences. What started as a love for cooking for family and friends quickly grew into a dream of creating something special – a catering business that combines creativity, quality ingredients, and a personal touch.
With a background in the food and hospitality industry, we’ve spent years learning the craft of cooking, menu design and customer service. Along the way, we discovered that food is about so much more than just what’s on the plate – it’s about atmosphere, connection and memories. That belief is at the heart of everything we do.
Our inspiration comes from a mix of classic comfort food and bold, modern flavours, along with the charm of our vintage food trailer which adds character and theatre to every event. We love creating menus that feel exciting but familiar, indulgent but inclusive – with options for Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free guests so everyone can enjoy the experience.
What truly drives us is seeing people gather around our grazing tables, buffets or trailer with smiles, laughter and plates full of food they love. Our Team
The Velvet Flame is a family-run business built on passion, creativity and a lifelong love of food.
Katie is the owner, designer and creator of The Velvet Flame. After years of running SBOMB Vintage Workshop, she decided to take her legendary toasties and big breakfasts on the road – and from there, The Velvet Flame was born.
Katie’s love of food started early, cooking mince pies with her grandma and learning the ropes from her stepfather, who owned a hotel and ruled the kitchen. Over the years, she’s worked ski seasons, served traditional Sunday carveries on the Isle of Man, catered weddings and events, and built a wealth of experience across the hospitality world. All of that knowledge, creativity and flavour now comes together in every menu she designs.
Lolley is Katie’s right-hand woman and partner in flavour. Having worked alongside Katie at SBOMB, she now brings her baking magic to The Velvet Flame while also running Lolley’s Bakes. She is the mastermind behind some truly unforgettable desserts – from award-winning cheesecakes and indulgent traybakes to a Dorset Apple Cake that people still talk about. Her talent, precision and love of baking add the sweet finishing touch to everything we do.
And then there’s Charlie – the man who makes it all happen behind the scenes. He builds the setup, lifts and lugs the heavy stuff, runs for anything we’ve forgotten, keeps everything organised and somehow remembers everything at once. He’s also the friendly face you’ll meet when ordering, greeting guests with a smile while Katie and Lolley create the flavours in the kitchen. From chief dishwasher to problem solver, Charlie truly does it all.
Together, we are The Velvet Flame – a small team with a big love for food, people and creating memorable experiences. Every event we cater is personal to us, and every plate we serve is made with care, passion and a whole lot of flavour.
