The Potjie Pot

We are a family run business who have based our meals on healthy values of quality food made from scratch. We only use olive oil, where applicable, for frying and for cooking our curries, and real butter and double cream as ingredients in our foods (such as the desserts or the chicken a la king). Our South African style boerewors sausage is made using an old traditional recipe without chemicals or fillers, spiced according to the old farmers style. We make chicken a la king with double cream, pepper, peas and mushrooms on rice. Durban curry and rice, based on a rich Indian heritage in South Africa, using the original spices. This can be beef or lamb. It can also be used in a "vetkoek" (a dough ball, fried in olive oil, cut open from one side, with the juicy curry stuffed inside) or as a "bunny chow" (a ¼ loaf of soft bread, hollowed out and filled with the same juicy curry, served with preach chutney and tomato, onion and lemon sambals). We make artisinal bread, cheese and bacon style. We also do some famous South African desserts such as: koeksisters (plaited dough, fried in olive oil, and then hot-dipped into a blend of sugar, honey, vanilla, ginger and lemon). Malva pudding (a sponge cake baked with a toffee syrup, cream and butter). Crunchies (similar to "flapjacks, but actually nice. Oats, flour, coconut, raisins, castor sugar, honey, brown sugar, butter, and baked). We can cater for the usual fast foods, such as hamburgers and hotdogs, but they are not our usual "go-to" as we prefer to make our food as robustly healthy and rich as possible. We do them only on request. We can cater for gluten free and dairy free, but not halal or vegan (except for chips and some desserts.)

We do several markets around Dorset, and cater to events on request, such as work related meals, birthdays or weddings.
